Ophthalmology, Medical Practice
Hi, I'm Dr. Kevin Niksarli. I am a LASIK surgeon and the medical director at Manhattan Lasik Center.
Kevin Niksarli's Bio:
Coming to the United States in 1986 to pursue a medical degree, Dr. Kevin Niksarli is one of the most decorated ophthalmologists in the country, if not the world. For many patients, Dr. Niksarli is their last hope, and thankfully for them, Dr. Niksarli is a great last hope to have!
With more than 70,000 vision correction procedures under his belt, Dr. Kevin Niksarli is one of America's top ophthalmologists. Called "the unassuming pioneer of LASIK surgery," Niksarli is nearly synonymous with LASIK. As a board-certified ophthalmologist of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a specialist in laser eye surgery, he is often sought after for advice on complex cases or difficult consultations, Dr. Niksarli has set himself apart from his peers. Over the course of his career, he has provided immeasurable guidance to countless LASIK surgeons and patients alike.
Dr. Kevin Niksarli first dreamed of becoming an industrial engineer. He pursued this passion at Istanbul's German High School and eventually continued studying at Bogazici University. The educational journey eventually took a young Niksarli to New York City.
As a full academic scholarship student, Dr. Kevin Niksarli completed his undergraduate degree at Columbia University. Not surprisingly, he graduated with high marks on the Dean's list and decided to pursue his medical degree from Weill Cornell University Medical College. He completed an internal medicine internship and an eye surgery residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan's Upper East Side. He supplemented his study with further training from Harvard University and a fellowship program in cornea and refractive surgery at the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital and Cornell University/New York Hospital Medical Center. In addition to his MD degree, Dr. Niksarli is an engineer and computer scientist, making him unwaveringly precise as a surgeon. Because of his unwavering dedication to the patient, Dr. Niksarli earned the position of Chief Resident.
WORK
Over a decade and a half ago, Dr. Nikasarli founded Manhattan LASIK Center, now regarded as one of the finest eye hospitals in the country. Dr. Nikasarli's deep knowledge of engineering and computers put him miles ahead of his medical counterparts because of his keen ability to understand and appreciate the latest laser technologies. The marriage of his main interests--ophthalmology, engineering, and computers--made him a prime candidate for becoming a decorated eye surgeon.
Manhattan LASIK Center exclusively offers LASIK, LASEK, and laser vision correction. Since the 1995 approval of the excimer Laser--a type of ultraviolet laser used in eye surgery--Dr. Nikasarli has performed over 40,000 successful LASIK procedures, resulting in exponential growth of his prestigious eye center. Considered a major breakthrough in the field of ophthalmology, LASIK surgery uses a laser to reshape the cornea in order to correct vision changes or loss. Though it sounds less intensive than surgery performed with a knife or scalpel, the procedure is no less intricate and requires the skill of adept ophthalmologists, of which Dr. Nikasarli leads the charge.
He continues to manage the Manhattan LASIK Center with the same professionalism that has guided his career. A pioneer-turned-expert in his field, he regularly researches and lectures on the topic of refractive laser technology. His years spent studying LASIK have made unusual or difficult cases passed onto him from other surgeons a challenge to be taken and overcome.
When he isn't performing surgery at Manhattan LASIK Center, Dr. Niksarli pays homage to his roots, serving as an associate professor of ophthalmology at the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital, and New York University Medical Center.
Specifically, Dr. Niksarli enjoys lecturing students and surgeons alike on how to prepare patients for eye surgery, how to help patients overcome their fears and concerns, and how to perform eye surgery effectively.
Because of his extraordinary surgical skills and dedication to superb patient care, Dr. Niksarli has been recognized by medical associations and organizations worldwide. He was conferred the status of Diplomate by both the National Board of Medical Examiners and the National Board of Ophthalmology.
While he graciously accepts each award or recognition offered to him, it is each patient's success in his center that motivates him to continue giving his heart and soul to the advancement of laser vision correction. It is for this dedication that he was granted the prestigious VISX Star Award--a rare honor given to fewer than 5% of ophthalmologists around the country.
He also serves in several professional organizations, including but not limited to the following:
American Academy of Ophthalmology
American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery
International Society of Refractive Surgery
New York State Ophthalmological Society.
Since the eye is simultaneously one of the most fragile yet important organs of the body, it is essential that patients put their trust in experts. No other expert is as reliable or skilled as Dr. Kevin Niksarli. He gives each patient the same devoted attention he gave his career, and his reputation confirms it.
